Fall 2011 Trend: Polka Dots

Polka dots have a long history in fashion, as well as in music — the pattern of a flamenco dancer’s dress and the ever-catchy itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini song (Yoplait commercial anyone?). From the classic pin-up girl dresses to the popularization by Venezuelan designer Carolina Herrera in the late 80’s and early 90’s to the 2006 craze in the UK, these dots are here to stay. Seen in the Spring/Summer 2011 collections, the classic print surges the Fall 2011 runways.

When I think polka dot, I instantly think Miu Miu polka dot platform sandal. These statement shoes keep reappearing on fashion blogs, on the feet of magazine editors and fashionistas alike. Yet trying to get your hands on them to buy online is nearly impossible as they’re virtually sold out — not that I’ve tried numerous times.
